How does a Sun Tunnel or Solatube work?
The dome captures sunlight on the roof and transfers it down an almost 100% reflective tube to beautifully light interior spaces. The ceiling fixture looks like an attractive round light fixture.
How large an area does the Sun Tunnel or Solatube light?
As a basic guideline:
10” – up to 200 square feet
14" – up to 250 - 320 square feet
How much light does a Sun Tunnel or Solatube provide?
The 10” will give the equivalent of about 150-200 watts of light on a sunny day. The 14” will provide about 250-300 watt equivalent.
How do they work on a cloudy day?
They work surprisingly well on a cloudy day. The domed design combined with highly reflective tubing directs ambient light down the tube and makes your room as bright as it is outside.
How long or short can the tube be?
There is no minimum length. The 10” can be installed up to 20 feet long and the 14” up to 25 feet long. Installs this long are not extremely common, but they do an amazing job of lighting the area.
How strong are the domes?
The domes are made from an injection molded acrylic. Their shape and composition make them almost unbreakable. We guaranty them against hail.
What is the product warranty?
There is a 10 year manufacturers warranty on both Sun Tunnel and Solatube.

Yes, for applications where you are replacing a light fixture or need an additional light at night we provide a light kit for both the 10” and 14” models.
Can a Sun Tunnel or Solatube work for the first floor of a two story house?
Yes, you need a closet or chase directly above the tunnel to run the tubing through to the attic and roof. They work very well.
